 well i have to add - this is not the only way.  

 .) the import needs A rollback segment and  .) there has to be enough space in the tablespace  

 but:  

 if both is true you can run into difficulties if the  

 .) rollback segments are very small or
 .) the rollback segments are at the moment too big to fit into the tablespace.  

 there are a few possibilities to prevent this failures:  

 .) increase the size of rollback segments  .) set the optimal parameter of rollback segments (to allow them to shrink

    if they are not needed)
 .) increase the size of the tablespace (of the rollback segments).  

 if you cannot do that (not enough space....)  .) take the rollback segments you dont need offline -> so you have got more

    space left for extending other rollback segments

i had the same problem with an import of a big table and after extending the rollback segments and the tablespace (after that the import did not work either) i took all rollback segments except one offline and increased the maxextents and other sizes of this special rollback segment and so used it for the import. (after that all the way back :-) )
