Oracle Career question

I have the opportunity to become an Oracle7 DBA in another department in my company. I have about 5 years UNIX shell programming experience in my current position. I know almost nothing about RDBMS or Oracle, but they are willing to train me from the "ground up". I am finishing up work on my bachelors in Computer Science at a local university.

I think that this would be a good career move for me. I have a couple of questions:

1. What level of experience would be considered marketable once I learn the Oracle DBA trade? (i.e., Would I be laughed at if I went job hunting with 2 years of exp. or would I need to have a few more years of seasoning?)
2. What kind of salary could I demand once I get a "marketable" level of knowledge and experience? I live in the northeast Florida area if this makes a difference.
