I would agree with setting the RESOURCE_LIMIT in the init.ora file. But rather than changing the users/ roles I would create a profile (maybe called IDLE) with a limit of idle_time 5 (the number is in minutes). This can be found in chapter 11 of the Oracle7 Server Admin Guide. I have tested this and it does not mean that if a session is idle for 5 minutes it will be disconnected. It will only disconnect after abnormal termination.
