SPSS <-> Oracle 7.0

I'm running SPSS 5.0 on Solaris 2.3 and have been unable to connect to Oracle (7.0.15.4) through either the motif dialog box or the syntax "backend." I get the error ORA-12203 (TNS unable to connect to destination) or error ORA-06401 (connect string contains an invalid driver designator.) The Oracle server has both SQL*Net V1 and SQL*NET V2 installed.

Has anyone had similar problems or have this working?
