Oracle Database System Administrator

This position reports to the Applications Support Manager, Information Technologies Group, at Oregon Health Sciences University and will be responsible for all Oracle DBA functions at OHSU. Four or more years experience using Oracle Versions 6 and 7 in a DBA role with at least one year of experience with Version 7. Experience with the conversion/ upgrade process from V6 to V7, deployment of client-server applications, in-depth knowledge of "explain plan" and "tkprof", working knowledge of Cooperative Development Environment, Oracle development languages, monitoring tools, UNIX operating systems, thorough competence in oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills are necessary. Preference will be given to persons with hospital or university experience and to persons with experience with other relational database systems, especially DB2.

Additional Position Description Information:

This position is under the supervision of the Manager of Applications Support for the Information Technologies Group at OHSU. This position performs Oracle database system administration functions in support of Oracle based applications at OHSU. These applications currently include the Accounts Payable and Purchasing systems, the Human Resources and Payroll systems and the Student Information system. This position is responsible for creation of custom tablespaces, tables and indexes, monitoring and adjusting database space utilization, monitoring application performance and system response times, and monitoring and adjusting Oracle system performance tuning parameters to support Oracle based system development and maintenance, as well as end-user access to data stored within Oracle databases. This position is responsible for providing guidance and mentoring to Oracle application development staff, serving as a knowledge resource to the developers, instructing them in performance tuning and the proper and effective use of Oracle development tools. This position will monitor Oracle utilization of system hardware and software and provide feedback to system managers to ensure effective utilization and performance of Oracle applications. This position will be responsible for ensuring proper and adequate implementation and operation of Oracle database security measures. This position will maintain Oracle system software, implementing fixes, updates and new releases. This position will direct the development and implementation of Oracle database backup and recovery processes and will participate in performing database recoveries. This position will work with vendor representatives, system administrators, developers and end-users to ensure proper and effective utilization of Oracle databases at OHSU.
