Sorry, but the database files aren't that simple. Because of Alpha's longword alignment issues, the database file structure changes. This implies that you must do an export/import to get your database from VAX to Alpha. Make sense?

I believe that the OCI logon and cursor data structures get padded a bit, too. You'll be concerned about that if you use OCI.
