I haven't yet seen Liam's article (the wonders of USENET... getting replies before posts... :) ), so I don't know what the whole story with this article is, but I can answer some of the questions, yet.

CFM is a technology which was designed for the PowerPC Macintoshes originally. It is built into the OS for PowerPC Macintoshes. It does not yet exist (in a production status) for 68K Macs.

Code which is written using the Code Fragment Manager *now* will only support the PowerPC based Macintoshes since they are the only ones which can run the Code Fragment Manager now.

CodeWarrior supports generating CFM code for PowerPC based Macintoshes. Because CFM for 68K based Macintoshes is not yet available, CodeWarrior does not support generating 68K CFM code.

However, CodeWarrior is slated to begin supporting 68K based CFM code sometime in '95... of course, Apple needs to finish the 68K CFM as well. So, while CFM exists for only the PPC Macs, CodeWarrior generates "normal", old-style 68K binaries (with the code in CODE resources).

The plans for CDE2 on the Mac are for the PPC native portion to be written using CFM (because that's how native programs are written). The 68K portion may or may not be CFM depending on whether Apple and MetroWerks can get their products out the door fast enough. Either way, CDE2 will be supported on both platforms.

Programming on the Mac these days is, to say the least, a real mess. But transition times always are.

I hope I didn't just confuse you more,
