        AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER         POSITION: Application Developer (2 fulltime positions)         

        REPORTS TO: Executive Director for the Computer Software Initiative

	GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Designs, modifies, enhances
	and programs an INGRES based MIS system for Massachusetts Bay
	Community College.  

	EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

	1. Install/upgrade INGRES-based purchased and MBCC-developed 
	   software systems.
	2. Tests existing application programs.
	3. Writes specifications, data flow diagrams, database schema using ER,
	   application design, and related documentation.
	4. Modify, to user community specifications, the INGRES-based
	   applications.
	5. Develops new application programs using INGRES 4GL/SQL 
           and/or Embedded SQL/C under Client/Server environment.
	6. Writes, test and debug INGRES based software systems.
	7. Writes programmer's guide for INGRES based applications.
	8. Maintains existing applications; develops programs to
	   analyze benchmark statistics and to tune database system.
	9. Determines causes of program failure and determines 
	   appropriate solutions to solve problems.
	10. Develops the programs to build the interfaces to all 
	    MIS applications and databases which consist of SIS,FIS,HRIS and
	    Financial Aid.
	11. Modify, merge programs to integrate the databases and
	    applications for related databases.
	12. Develops programs to effect processing of data required
	    by application specifications and produce reports required
	    by administrative offices.
	13. Performs some of DBA functions as assigned, for examples,
	    writing the benchmark, QEP, and optimizing programs to evaluate
	    the database and application performance and to tune the database.
	14. Monitor the database and application process using IPM.
	15. Develops, maintains and grant database and application security
	    and permission.
	16. Writes and submit status reports.
	17. Other duties as assigned.

	MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

	1. Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work
	   experience.
	2. Experience in the development of administrative applications in
	   3GL and 4GL using INGRES DBMS or equivalent.
	3. Knowledge of software engineering techniques and Software Life
	   Cycle Methodology as well as experience with VAX/VMS.
	4. Experience in C and Embedded SQL/C preferred.
	5. Experience in PC GUI interface and Object Oriented Technology(OOT)
	6. 3-5 years programming experience with a minimum of one year 
           INGRES-based programming experience.

	SALARY: Annualized salary range 30-40k, depending upon
	education and experience.
