I am a ex-Cobol Mainframer who has invested a lot of time using xbased products like dBaseIV and Foxpro. While watching the market in Denver, CO

over a period of time, I noticed almost all of the employers/contractors are screaming for Oracle/Unix. So, off to Oracle/Unix school I go for retrainining in order to stay on top of things, which seems nearly impossible. I wanted to know if you could tell me a few things before I leap.

  1. What is the future outlook for Oracle/Unix RDMS programmers?
  2. How much does Oracle differ from Foxpro? Is it all SQL-based only?
  3. What kind of pay range/advancement potential as a continuing consultant can I expect when I switch over, considering I have ten years experience, 7 of which is in mainframes Cobol, 3 in dBase/Foxpro and the last few projects leading them from zero to hero as a project mgr.

Please shed any kinda light on this seemingly unfocused soul.

Thank you
by the way e-mail me at "Blessed01_at_aol.com" that's as zero not an o the Blessed01.
