SQLNet 1.1.7.7b & Oracle6?

Hi guys,
I'm experimenting with the latest(?) version of SQLNet for Windows, 1.1.7.7b.
I've managed to make it work over all kinds of TCP connections to Oracle 7 but
on an Oracle 6 server it comes back with an SID lookup error even though the
SID I am using is correct. Does anyone have any idea?
