I haven't tried using SQL*Net on Unix yet, but got the same error message when fooling around with SQL*Net for DOS and Windows. Have you tried to define  the sqlnet alias in the /etc/hosts file (as described on page 4-4 of the SQL*Net TCP/IP User's Guide)? Another work-around could be using the /etc/sqlnet file to define an alias for T:eve:test.
