Oracle Developer
Editorial Statement

DRAFT, January 1994

Oracle Developer will provide cutting-edge techniques for developing PC applications with Oracle CDE tools more productively and knowledgeably.

This monthly newsletter will feature in-depth articles by Oracle experts who have invented and refined development methods and wish to share the details of their original approaches with other Oracle developers. Oracle Developer also provides independent news about Oracle -- its products, plans, and problems -- as well as objective reviews of product releases from the explosive and vital Oracle third-party market.

Each month, readers will receive in-depth explanations of development techniques, along with the code and instructions they need for implementing the ideas in their own applications. Frequently, authors will provide sample applications and data in order to test the methods. These files will be provided on the companion disk that accompanies the newsletter each month.

Oracle Developer purposefully targets the advanced developer of applications-people who make all or part of their living developing end-user applications, whether as independent consultants or corporate employees. While Oracle Developer recognizes that some of these developers may be relatively new in applying their knowledge to the CDE tools (as opposed to other development environments and languages), we assume the reader knows the basic mechanics of constructing significant applications software. Therefore, Oracle Developer will strive to:

  • Provide "meaty," thought-provoking material for the experienced Oracle application developer.
  • Provide necessary background for advanced developers learning how to apply their skills to Oracle.
  • Avoid stating the obvious or covering topics that are only useful to beginning-level developers.
  • Maintain an emphasis on tools and techniques that are useful and innovative, and can be readily applied to round out a developer's "bag of tricks." Provide quick and ready access to this information by being succinct.
  • Provide CDE-specific material that isn't readily available anywhere else.
