Our query contains an outerjoin, and when the where clause contains conditions that are 'and'ed together the INDEX is used.
BUt when the conditions are 'OR'ed together the INDEX is not used.
Why is this so..?
We have traced the query, to prove to ourselves that this indeed does happen.
