Client/Server DBLINKS

 In connection with Dan Bikles comments, the manual specifically states that a database link will use the name AND PASSWORD of the dblink creator (I can't try it so can't verify) if created in the manner he suggests. But if it works, good luck.

 However, if you don't have nis you can achieve the same effect by giving a username of "/" and a password of "". But this does mean you have to keep the two passwords synchronised (but if the user doesn't know either of them thats a DBA problem.) This I have done, and it works.

 If anyone knows how to pull the same trick, where the client is a PC (and therefore can't use OPS$ because the user is not actually logging in to a system first) I'd like to hear about it.
