Renaming SYSTEM tablespace files

In the process of reconfiguring the file system, I would prefer to be able to rename all the data files (Oracle V-6 on Ultrix), rather than exporting, recreating, then importing. However, I cannot find anything specific in the manuals on renaming the SYSTEM tablespace files.
Does anyone know if this can cause problems or not???
