Gupta has the same sort of arrangement. It's good for both parties as Novell makes Netware look like a good server choice and Oracle gets credibility for it database. Ditto with Gupta. I wouldn't hold your breath for a Sybase alliance though.

As far as choice of server goes, it depends what you want. Gupta is faster, cheaper and has a more modern design, but Oracle is more mature, has a broader range of features and has a better support setup. Oh yeah, and then there's Ingres, Informix etc
