Recovering ORACLE V5.1 DB with corrupt BI file??

One of our old ORACLE V5.1 DBs crashed because of a system failure. When I try to bring ORACLE up again it attempts to recover but the before image file seems to be corrupt.

Is there a way to bring ORACLE up WITHOUT the recovery procedure, ignoring the old BI file, and supplying a new one?

The system is an IBM RT/PC under AIX 2.2.1.
