Thanks once again for all the help! My mistake was that I didn't do a shutdown! I thought logging off and on again was enough. Live and learn!

It's running now though. I just have to figure out which is the correct character set to get umlauts. (On hpterm they appear correctly, but on vt100 and X-term they don't - in Forms3.0 and SQL*Plus at least.)
