Some months back I spoke to Oracle about problems I encountered - same as yours - in printing long fields. I received the traditional pat answer about this being a known bug. And at that time they did not know when they were going to fix it.
I am currently trying to convince my management to purchase a third party report writer called SQR. Having used it before I know it works.
