Discoverer is a good and nice tool.
[Quoted] It a Excel like. You can make graphics, sorts, changes Fonts and colors with conditions, etc..
You can export to Excel too.

Same database ? Sure. Create a user and install the Repository of Discoverer [Quoted] in that user. After, create a Work Area referenced your production tables of [Quoted] your application who have the data to query and WORK.
