accesing data block records

Hi All,
I need to acces the values of items in datablocks that are in different
records to the current record...
Is there anyway of doing this? say, looking up the value of a particular
field in the 2nd record of a datablock while the user is entering data into
the 5th record.?.
I can't use a go_record...so is there a way to do it??
