hi all,
i have a dw/bus intelligence project and i am considering tools oracle,
sap bw, microsoft, sas, peoplesoft, etc. can you share with me your
opinions on oracle's data warehousing solution. i like oracle and have
heard these competitive knocks against oracle.
- Products are packaged together (Express, Designer, etc. ) which were never architected to work together. is this true..
- Oracle basically believes that data warehouses need to be build instead of being bought. this is expensive...
- Oracle has a wide range of different modules in different phases of their life-cycle that one has to learn to implement an OLAP solution. Most of these are not easy to combine.
- With the Oracle set of tools, drilling down to the base relational data requires Oracle to fire off a previously defined query.
- To implement a Oracle data warehouse, you have to buy different products and days of consulting. There is no further methodology.
- Oracle offers no integration functions for industry specific needs.
