SQLNet ODBC connection

I am new to oracle and want to connect to a existing customers Oracle 7.3 database from an NT client.

I managed to download the ODBC Driver form the Oracle HP, but it seems there is a additional network layer software required called SQLNet which was not part of the driver distribution.

I didnt find informationen that this is a seperated product, and no location or information where I can get this.

Do I have to buy a whole database to connect to a existing db via ODBC???? This cant be true, I hope so.

Please can anyone point me in the right direction?
