Designer Problem with comments

I have the Designer 6 with the repository running on Oracle 7.3 for NT. The repository has been upgraded several times (initially created with Designer 1.3). I reversed engineered some tables from an Oracle 7.1.5 database. When I try to add comments to a table or to any columns the comments seems to be limited to 255 characters. If you enter more than 255 characters in the comment property (either table or column) and click save the comment just disappears, but if you enter 255 characters or less the comment saves ok. Does anyone know if this is a bug (same thing happened with Designer 2.1.2)? If it isn't a bug does anyone know what is happening?
