Hi,

[Quoted] I was trying to install Oracle 8.04 on Windows NT Server 4.0 with SP 4 over the weekend, and I was a bit confused. I am not an Oracle expert. Here are some of the questions that I have during the installation:

Objective of my project:
1) Create a new database with a new SID so one of my IBM application can use it.

Questions:

For the installation Option:
1) Should I do a Custom Installation or an Oracle8 Enterprise Edition on Windows NT?

2) Should I install a custom database or a default starter database?

(I did a Custom Installation and a custom database, I created a custom SID and database name.)

Post Installation configuration:

Here's where I got confused.....

3) Do I need two machines here? One for the Oracle8 database and the second one for the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Console and Oracle8 repository database?

  1. If I need 2 machines, which Oracle options do I need to install on the OEM Console and Oracle8 repository database to talk to the Oracle8 database machine?
  2. Or can I just need one machine which include Oracle8 database, Oracle Enterprise Manager Console and Oracle8 repository database? (I don't think this is the right way to do it)

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Steve
