HELP!! How to use short cut keys?

I think this is a simple question but I've had a rough time trying to find the answer. All I want to do is to let the user hit CTRL-D or CTRL-R at anytime on a certain form and have a trigger run. I've already set up this trigger on a button but the specs call for these shortcut keys.
