Yea, the download of JInitiator takes about 5 minutes on our LAN but from then on things get much better - about 1 minute to download the class files needed to start the application each time. Our client's application is the sort where they go in at the start of the day and work in it continually so this isn't much of a problem. So far performance within the application is OK but we've only tried it single user with three forms so it doesn't mean too much. In August we're trying a test at the client's site on a larger pilot with 60-70 users so that should be interesting. We're actually now using the Forms 6 version of JInitiator, 1.1.7.11 as this is the first version which is based on a JDK certified by Sun as Y2K compliant. This version seems to work OK with our unpatched forms 5 developer server (on dynix) and appears marginally quicker than 1.1.5.21.1.

We've had the same problem with reference sites. We've had some company names quoted to us by Oracle but when it came to it Oracle said they were unsuitable for various reasons like being too busy as they were still working on the migration etc. They aren't being very forthcoming. I don't know if it's just because we've upset them for other reasons or whether there really aren't many established web form sites.

(There is a white paper on machine requirements for web-forms - you can find it on Oracle's web-site under products, developer server, collateral.)

As for using other techinques we believe client server would perform worse than web and would require too many changes for user exits and host calls. Dynamic html generated from Designer would reduce the inherent functionality that you get with existing forms and Jdeveloper would require a lot of re-development.
