GCC and ProC on AIX

When I recompile an application on AIX with GCC and ProC , but faild . With an error of : Unknown format , it is not a XCOFF format file and unable to execute.
I tried all the version of GCC(2.7.2.3,2.8.1,egcs1.1.2) and ProC(1.6 and 2.0) , it is same .
After I copy a libc.a from AIX4.1 to AIX4.2 , it succeed .
