We have been using Access as front end against an Oracle database ( Personnel Tracking System) for the last two years, and (finally) bougth the Oracle tools. (Web developer suit). Our database started as an Access database , growing too fast for Access to cope with.

Beeing new to the Oracle tools ( and very experienced with Access) , it is in a way overwhelming - The level of just beeing able to get started seems high, but to me it looks in general as theese are tools in a different , and much higher class. Especially impressed by the classes, which are nonsence in Access.

Advantages of access - which I haven't been able to find in Oracle yet (which of course don't mean that they are not there ) : Working in a Microsoft environment , the standard export functions of query's , reports etc to Excel, Word and Outlook in Access are brilliant.

If you have (very?) experienced Access users , the possibility for the user to make their own queries / Reports is there. On the other hand, having had approx 30 daily users over the last two years, nobody is able to do that yet.

Oracle applications are a lot faster - it is possible to get similar speed from Access, but requiers very experienced Access programmers.

As I said - I am happy to finally beeing able to work with proper tools.
