Hi A'shar and Andreas,

The question is not whether gcc will work or not - the question is whether Oracle supports it or not. For every Pro*C version on every platform/operating system version Oracle typically certifies 1-2 compilers for each pro-language, which have a status as 'defacto standard', normally the compiler which is shipped with the OS or from some other major vendor. Eg. on Windows95/NT, the two supported C-compilers are MS Visual C++ 4/5 and Borland C++ 5.0 (for Pro*C >= 2.1)

On Solaris, the following compilers are certified:

        Pro*C   Compiler
        -----   ---------------------------------
*       2.0.3   SPARCworks C Compiler 2.0.1 & 3.0
*       2.0.4   SPARCworks C Compiler 3.0.1
                SPARCworks C Compiler 4.0
*       2.0.6   SPARCworks C Compiler 3.0.1
                SPARCworks C Compiler 4.0
        2.1+    SPARCworks C++ Compiler 4.0.1 & 4.1 (eg /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC)
*       2.1     SPARCworks C Compiler 3.0.1
                SPARCworks C Compiler 4.0
*       2.2     SPARCworks C Compiler 3.0.1
                SPARCworks C Compiler 4.0

Developing userexits for Developer/2000 1.2 (Windows 3.x) requires a 16-bit compiler, which *must* be one the following (for the given version of Pro*C):

        Pro*C   Compiler
        -----   --------------------------------------------
*       1.4.11  MicroSoft Visual C++ 1.0 & 1.5 & Borland 4.0
*       1.5.10  MicroSoft Visual C++ 1.0 & 1.5 & Borland 4.0
*       2.0.4   MicroSoft Visual C++ 1.5

Regarding demo versions, keep an eye on Oracle's Trial Products on http://www.oracle.com/products/trial/html/trial.html. Currently, there is no Pro* trial products, but they might appear at some point.
