I don't know anything about it, but some googling makes me think it has something to do with RAC interactions with ASM. http://www.freelists.org/post/oracle-l/RAC,27 Tanel mentions better instrumentation from 11gR2 on in the next post.

I don't think it is normal, but support or a RAC specialist may be in order.
