Hi Peter,

What have you already read? The two export types you are referencing are for totally different purposes. One is used to copy one users data to be reloaded later (maybe some data will be reloaded, maybe all). The other is for transferring complete physical datafiles between databases.

This is explained indepth the DBA and Concepts guide at tahiti.oracle.com. I found the following link describing transportable tablespaces at tahiti using the search functionality...
