Hi Dave,

In Oracle 9i : it will allocate 7GB at startup and you can later resize/increase your total

                     sga [ show sga ] to 20 GB.

                     BUT

                   if you have configured pga_agg*_target and if
required and oracle
                   sees space between settings [ Actual allocated SGA
and MAX_SGA_SIZE
                    then it can give more memory to pga_agg*_target

In Oracle 10g : Oracle will startup again using 7GB and can increase any parameter

                        shared_pool,db_Cache,java_  till 20gb.

                       mean in 9i only pga_agg* can increase and in 10g
all the parameters.
