I'm designing a process to upgrade a large number of customer sites from 7.3.4 to 10g and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions.  The process will be scripted, non-interactive, and automated (as much as possible). The two options seem to be (1) export/import directly from 7->10 (into a new DB) and (2) upgrade/migrate via an intermediate version such as 8i or 9i.

Some customer sites will be upgraded in-place (on Solaris 8/SPARC 64-bit) but other sites will additionally be migrating to a new server; from Sun, AIX, or HPUX to Linux (which is little-endian BTW, so I can't just cp the datafiles).

Which upgrade path should I use?
