It is more complicated than that, there are a number of notes on metalink that explain the issues. In a word, no.
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=1025876.6 notes that the 2G limit is for Solaris 2.4, with a patch available. 64 bit OS's tend to not have these issues.
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_id=61896.1&p_database_id=NOT explains the older concepts fairly clearly, although points elsewhere for 8i detailed instructions.
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/showdoc?db=NOT&id=62290.1 notes how to upgrade your O to 64 bit.
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=107201.1 is specific to hp, but has some interesting thoughts.
