I think most people would argue that if you are using Oracle in production then you would want to be on a certified platform - so would hav to go with the enterprise distributions. Failure to do so would mean you might as well not bother to pay Oracle support as you may struggle to log any calls.

If you are happy to go against conventional wisdom, then there are clones of the enterprise linux distributions;

   CentOS -- http://www.caosity.org

Personally, I have used mainstream Suse & Redhat as there is a wealth of newsgroup postings and howtos for installing onto these distros and not much to choose between them in terms of ease of install.
