Personally, I've never even thought about this as a configuration for my server. I understand why you want to do it. But why would you upgrade to 9.2.0.4 on the listener without upgrading the database at the same time? And if the listener is down for your upgrade, so is the database (to any new outside connections). So while I understand why you want to do this, I'm not sure that the benefits of a non-standard configuration are really worth it.
