Hi.
We're moving from Oracle 8.1.7.4 to Oracle 9.2.0.4 (64-bit) on Sun
Solaris 2.8.
My colleague has come up with the following strategy.
Can anyone tell me if this will work to actually upgrade the database,
rather than just importing it. Or should I use the migration utility?
And if so, should I use the dbua or manually upgrade.
Many thanks everyone.
Ed.
- Create a blank 9i database and set up all the tablespaces as per the
8i,
- Check the init.ora parms and reset the 9i similarly to the 8i,
- Do a full sys export from 8i,
- Do a full sys import into 9i (No rows),
- Do a full sys import into 9i (rows),
- Check the manual security permissions (see the 8i upgrade note),
- Point a Banner application at it (we use Banner 2000 client),
- Wipe all the data,
- Drop all the objects owned by the banner product owners (cascade
constraints),
- Drop all users (cascade) not banner product owners (leave all these
accounts with their perms attached),
- Shrink the tablespaces to a reasonable size,
- Archive this database and ensure you have create and destroy scripts
for it,
- Then test the import of an 8i into this 9i, you should now be able
to create a 9i quickly without any errors etc. NB you may have to grow
the tablespace size.
- In addition to this You will need to explore new init.ora,
config.ora, UNDO tablespace & rollback segment usage, …….. All the new
DBA facilities in 9i
