You mean shift to OO DB model? Ain't gonna happen. This model it out there for more than 10 years already and accomplished nothing. Current attempts by Oracle and IBM to have some kind of objects and types in the database are just ridiculous. Those who is talking about it are forgetting the main idea of a database: quick search of information. Relational model allows it. OO model doesn't. Everything else is just management talk, or salesman talk. As for compatibility of OO model with relarional, anybody who read Codd knows that those two models are not compatible. And anybody who knows DB history a little bit knows that OO model is actually painted over network DB model. CODASYL anybody?
