Nevertheless, it has to be done. No system can operate reliably without a backup or other form of storage redundancy. BTW, that is true with ANY database system and OS.

Besides, if he has no backups and no mirroring anywhere, it's gonna be awfully difficult to recover anything. With or without SCN.
