Re: migrating data from 8.1 to 7.3

This isn't completely true.

At first, you have to install the Export/Import-Views from oracle7 into your 8i database. With file $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catexp7.sql Then make your export (I think with the 8i-utility) from the 8i and then import it to 7.3 (with the 7.3-utility). This should work.

I did it in such way a few years ago. But I don't remember the exact procedure.
