I'm not sure about the fact that you have personal edition. I'd expect that to support JDBC but it might not. For this and other reasons I'd be sorely tempted to uninstall oracle and install the enterprise edition.

If you do have enterprise or std edition installed JDBC definitely works 'out of the box'. It shouldn't be necessary to use a JDBC-ODBC bridge either - i.e. you should be able to connect directly using jdbc onbce you have oracle installed and you can communicate using sqlplus.

If you still have problems come back with the error message and folk may be better able to help you.
