Hi Dom!
I think you should install 8.1.7 32 bit oracle first on your 64 bit Solaris and then move the files to this machine. Once you are able to open database, close it and take a full backup. Next install 64 bit oracle and open the database and run run catalog, catproc and utlirp scripts to convert your dictionary and packages to 64 bit.
