Hi All,

I am slightly worry about my way of upgrade. Would like to double check.

Source: 8.0.6 32 bits on solaris 2.6 (32 bits) platform Target: 8.1.7.3 64 bits on solaris 2.8 (64 bits OS)

I am thinking about the following:

  1. shutdown oracle
  2. export db
  3. also cold backup db
  4. startup oracle, and run upgrade to 8.1.7. 32 bits on solaris 2.6 32 bits.
  5. pre-install solaris 2.8 (64 bits) on another new machine
  6. install oracle 8.1.7. 64 bits software on that new machine.
  7. shutdown source db
  8. copy all the dbf file to the new machine
  9. ??? this is the part, I want to make sure. I could copy the 8.1.7 32 bits dbf file to the new machine, I would like to make sure for the 8.1.7.2 64 bits server could read the 32 bits dbf datafiles.
  10. run @utlirp.sql to recompile the packages in the oracle server in 64 bits.

Thanks in advance,
