There's no need to sell your books on the 8i stuff - a lot of the basic architectual functionality hasn't changed between 8i and 9i. You may want to add to your list of books some of the 9i ones just to round it out. I'm not sure if the exams are still beta or not, but if they are then try to get onto them while they're still beta - it's cheaper ($40 versus $125 from memory).

As for the second part of your question, go to google and search on this newsgroup for OCP - there's been a lot of discussion on this over the past few months and there's little point in rehashing it here.
