Hello,

I am considering becoming an Oracle Certifed Professional (OCP) DBA.

My first question is: should I study for 8i or for 9i? I already have three DBA books on Oracle 8i, and I'm not sure if I should sell these books and go for Oracle 9i, or if I should stick with Oracle 8i.

I noticed that the Oracle9i certification includes 4 exams--one less than 8i-- but is still in a beta phase. Also, Oracle gives you the title of 'Oracle Certified Associate' if you pass the first two exams of the Oracle9i certification.

It looks like the Oracle9i certification is most flexible, but wanted to know what your thoughts are before I start studying.

Also, do you think that the certification will actually help me find a job as a junior DBA? Are there any companies out there (in the US) that are willing to hire a junior DBA who has the OCP from Oracle and 3 years of programming experience in C and C++ (not in a database context)?

Thanks. Received on Sat Apr 27 2002 - 22:31:39 CDT
