You DO need to copy it back or recover if SCN in a datafile header was changed. But given that it's something wrong with the copies you're lucky you didn't. Just keep originals safe.

AFAIK by default 8K but could be something else. Use df -g to check. BTW which Unix do you use?

Yep, it's a different type of a filesystem.

I donno if cp is 'sparce file safe'. Search metalink (e.g. have a look at Note:6224.1) for more details about sparce files.
