As Howard noted, there's not really a great reason to switch logs before the backup. However, there may be good reasons to do an archive log current after the backup. One typical reason is if you have an automated cloning operation, you want all the redo generated during the backup to actually be archived so that you can take those logs and recover the clone. Sure, if you waited long enough that redo would get archived on its own, but sometimes you don't want to wait.
