Simple copying is a perfectly practical solution. She shuts the database down first, and isn't running in archivelog mode. That's a cold backup scenario, and cold backups are performed... er, by simply copying the datafiles (and the controlfiles, and the online redo logs too, if you like to keep things simple -so you;re right about the tablespace data files not being sufficient in and of themselves). Suggesting she move to export/import or RMAN is complete overkill! Regards HJR
