i'm thinking about it -- which means it would be a ways off still. The current book of mine took a full 9 months to write from conception to final edits.
I've discussed this with the publisher and if I do it, the 9i book would be a companion -- not a replacement (no way I'm ever doing a 1200 pager again). 95% of whats in the current book is still current. Need to change the architecture section to reflect changes to RAC, the job queues -- but the fundemental concepts are still sound. Need to update sections on redo/rollback to cover undo tablespaces in addition to rollback segments -- but the conclusions will be the same. Bind variables - well, they are still important.
So, I guess what I'm saying is -- my follow on book (if any) would be a companion book. Most all of the current book holds true for 9i -- no need in rehashing materialized views for example when the 8i book covers everything I would have covered. Autonomous transactions, invokers/definers rights -- no change. Fine Grained Access control -- modifications/enhancements to point out. Fine Grained Auditing -- brand new, gets a chapter to itself. Flash back query -- brand new as well.
